During spring term, Year 2’s topic will be hot and cold. They will become explorers and investigate this area. The children will research explorers who have travelled to different hot and cold locations around the world. The children will also research these places, looking and comparing them to their own country. Year 2 will also take a trip to the Durham Palace Green in which they will become real life explorers themselves! Finally, within literacy the children will be looking at fairy tales and reading Beauty and the Beast.
This term, Year 2’s topic is all about animals. The children will be learning about different types of animals and exploring their life cycles and basic needs. They will also be learning about healthy lifestyles and the benefits of this. Within literacy, the children will be looking at the story book ‘Zoo’ by famous author Anthony Browne and will be writing different texts around the story such as recounts, perspective writing and animal fact files. In art we will be looking at animal forms and making our own clay animals using ‘pinch and pull’ technique. Our history lessons have been based around The Great Fire of London. We will be looking at the events of the fire and talking about the similarities and differences between then and now. We are even going to write a diary in the eyes of Samuel Pepys! To further our art, we will be creating the London skyline from observing and imitating existing Great Fire art. As part of our European Day of Languages, Year 2 learnt an Spanish song to sing during our assembly. Click on the media below to hear Year 2 singing their Spanish song. Finally, Year 2 will take a trip to Hall Hill Farm to further their knowledge of animals and how to care for them.
